Anna McGary (she/her) is a dancer, choreographer, and educator based in Brooklyn. She was born and raised in Lexington, Kentucky where she studied dance and musical theater until moving to New York. She attended Marymount Manhattan and received a BFA in Dance with a concentration in ballet.

This is her third year with Marie-Christine Giordano Dance, participating in lecture demonstrations for elementary and middle school students across New York City. She performs with Emily Bufferd’s company BEings Dance.

In her time at Marymount, she had the opportunity to perform works by Jessica Lang, May O’Donnell (both, as a featured dancer), Robert Battle, and Jon Ole Olstad, among others. She was also a member of the school’s improv comedy team, America’s Least Wanted.

She choreographed three pieces for the school's Dancers at Work program. Her work has been featured as part of the Spark Theatre Festival, WAXworks, Inhale Performance Series, and Fertile Ground: New Works Series. She is particularly excited by post-modernism, creating new works with wonderful people, and engaging in interdisciplinary collaborations.

As a dance teacher, her top priority is empowering her students’ confidence in their bodies and abilities. She works to clarify and refine their technique while honoring their individuality and personhood, allowing room for discussion and verbalization of their experience of movement.

She runs the Avant Darty, an annual catastrophe/performance art extravaganza. Each year, she and her co-conspirator, Hannah DeFranzo, cobble together a series of increasingly inane tomfooleries, desperate to find the upper limit of what her friends will tolerate.

She has continued her training through intensives with The Martha Graham School, Parsons Dance, Juilliard, and DanceAction. In her spare time she enjoys reading, knitting, playing the guitar, songwriting, and general nonsense.
